These are wooden Japanese clogs or ‘geta’, which are worn with traditional, dress called kimono or yukata. These clogs are made of wood and are worn in rain or snow to keep the feet dry, due to their extra height and impermeability as compared to other shoes. In streets of Japan, you can hear ‘clacking sounds’ of these flip-flops.

These are hand made and are very comfortably worn by Japanese females. I wonder how they balance themselves on these weird shaped slippers. I know it is something unusual to us but for Japanese it is in there culture. It is not necessary that geta can be worn only in winter or rain but they can be nicely matched with your western outfit in summers.
